Reaches Milestone Kicks off New “Uptown $5 Million” Campaign
Public Tours to be
offered on June 23, 2012 Set to Honor Actor Will Smith & more!

The Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation (UEDC), owners of the historic Uptown Theater in North Philadelphia since 2002, reaches an important milestone in June--the completion of the first phase of renovation of what will be the theater’s education and entertainment tower. This will be celebrated with public tours being offered on June 23, 2012 from 1 to 2 p.m.
In May 2012, the UEDC began its “Uptown $5 Million” campaign to begin the second and final phase of the Uptown Theater renovation which will restore the auditorium. The second phase, scheduled to begin in August 2012 will be completed by 2013 once the $5 million goal is reached.
On June 21,
will be the 2nd Annual Philly Music Appreciation Ceremony and
fundraiser at 5:30
p.m. at the Ethical Society (1906 Rittenhouse Square) honoring actor
Will Smith, producer Earl Young Senator Shirley Kitchen,
Entrepreneur/producer James Elam, entertainment reporter Kimberly
Roberts of the Philadelphia Tribune, WRNB 100.3 radio personality
Tiffany Bacon, and poet Ursula Rucker.
Festivities continue on Saturday June 23,
from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a
neighborhood clean up, public tours of the Uptown Theater towers (from
1 to 2 p.m.) and the Uptown Theater Legends of Soul Back Yard Barbeque
Fundraiser. The day will also include music, dancing on Broad
Street, a health fair and more activities. Tickets can be

The Uptown Entertainment and
Development Corporation (UEDC) will begin the second phase
of the renovation and revitalization of the historic Uptown Theatre:
The Education and Entertainment Tower.
The Tower is one of many projects developed by the corporation to
connect with the community. It will be the future headquarters for the
Art and Education Youth Programs, providing space for a sound studio,
catering facility and house the business offices for the UEDC.
