The African American United Fund is Partnering with the Uptown Entertainmentand Development Corporation and Other Organizations to Sponsor Toy Drive for 500 Needy Children and Their Families

Philadelphia, PA, November 30, 2011:  The African American United Fund is collecting toys for a monumental toy drive. Additional partners are the Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation and their Young Uptown Around Town division, Grands As Parents, and X-Offenders for Community Empowerment.

With the increase in prices for consumer goods, utilities and food, it is particularly hard for poor and working families to afford basic necessities, let alone holiday gifts for their children.

“This year more people and families are in need and we are trying to respond to the difficult economic conditions that they are facing,” said Linda Richardson who is the president of the toy drive’s partner organization Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation.

Each year demand for toys exceeds goals set by the African American United Fund and generous donors provide toys to help meet requests received often days before the distribution.  The toy drive is in need of new unwrapped toys for children aged 0-12.

Donations for the event can be dropped off at the African American United Fund’s headquarters at 2227 N. Broad Street between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  Volunteers are needed to help sort toys on Friday December 16 and Monday December 19.

*Please contact Monica Peters by Thursday Dec 15 to register to volunteer; or to arrange toy drop offs (we accept toy drop offs until Tuesday Dec 20 at 5:00 PM) at 215-236-1878 or monicapeters1.uptown@gmail.com.
